The Weave Arts Program works in tandem with the Speak Out team to encourage and empower young people (12-28 years) experiencing mental health and substance use issues. The program works to create an environment of social inclusion where people feel safe, supported, connected and inspired.
The Weave Arts Program is free from judgement, stigma and assumptions. The young people are given creative license to illustrate and express their stories through a variety of art mediums such as oil paint, watercolour, lino prints and sculpture.
Participants report feeling a greater sense of connection to people and community, improved self-esteem and confidence.
As part of the overarching Speak Out program, the Weave Arts Program works in partnership with local community services, Mental Health Services, Department of Juvenile Justice, Missenden and Concord Psychiatric Hospitals.
