NEW SYDNEY MUSIC EVENT TO OFFER A FRESH AND POSITIVE BEGINNING FOR LOCAL YOUTH
October 26th, 2013 local collectives Foreigndub and Dynamic PR, in conjunction with Weave Youth Services will present “Truth for the Youth”. The all-day free event focuses on giving today’s youth access to alternative (to mainstream) music that they may not otherwise receive, in a positive and inspiring environment.
With most Sydney music venues and events targeted at young adults, “Truth for the Youth” brings the quality of underground music, positive messages, and safe fun into our local youth culture. The event will showcase Sydney's live electronic band - Kobra Kai and local Foreigndub DJs & friends, along with a skate competition featuring pro-skater, Roberto Fernandez from littlemexlabel. Kobra Kai are currently touring their new album, “Insession” around the country. The event will also provide a great opportunity for youth members from Weave’s DJ program to reveal what they have learned from the course.

“Young people from our DJ, beats & music mixing course will be performing at ‘Truth for the Youth’ and we will be raising money to buy resources for our education programs. Weave Youth Services provides support to disadvantaged young people and helps build the energy culture and feel of the heart of Sydney, Downtown Redfern and Waterloo.” [Shane Brown, Director at Weave Youth Services]

The DJ course is a part of The Step Up Education Program available free at Weave. It assists young people aged 16 to 24 years old who have or are at risk of disengaging from study, by providing them with a range of opportunities to reenter mainstream education, training or employment. Weave currently works with approximately 2,000 people, over 60% of who are Aboriginal Australians.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity to connect with our local youth, and encourage them to listen to good music. All the artists are really excited!” [Ace Lear, Director at Dynamic PR]
“Truth for the Youth” takes place on October 26th at Waterloo Skate Park, and will be moved to November 2nd in event of bad weather. Entertainment kicks off at 11am and concludes at 7:30pm. A cheap and tasty sausage sizzle will be provided by Weave, along with soft drinks. It is a strictly alcohol-free event. Details on the skate comp and full lineup on www.foreigndub.com.
