NAIDOC Week 2018 Festivities

Because of her, we can. This NAIDOC Week we’re celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and particularly honouring the essential role that women have played within the community. We’re participating in a number of events throughout the week:

Friday 6 July

Art Exhibition at Sydney Downing Centre
Join us from 11am for this event by the NSW Justice in partnership with Weave. Melissa Merritt from our Creating Futures Program is MC, and our acting CEO Siobhan Bryson will be delivering a speech.

 

Monday 9 July

Aboriginal Artists Pop Up featuring Vanessa Orcher and Shekara Harnett
From 10am to 3pm, Vanessa and Jude will be selling their artwork in the foyer of the ANZ Building at 255 George St, Sydney CBD 2000

 

Tuesday 10th July

Aboriginal Artists Pop Up featuring Vanessa Orcher and Jude Jarrett
From 10am to 3pm, Vanessa and Shekara will be selling their artwork in the foyer of the ANZ Building at Bond One – 20 Windmill St, Sydney CBD 2000

East Village & Kool Kids
From 11am to 2pm, join us at East Village Shopping Centre as our Kool Kids take the stage for a cultural performance and art workshop.

 

Wednesday 11th July

Opening Ceremony NSW Women’s Conference
Join us from 9am at NSW University.

Aboriginal Artists Pop Up featuring Vanessa Orcher and Jude Jarrett
From 10am to 3pm, Vanessa and Jude will be selling their artwork in the foyer of the ANZ Building at 124 Walker St, Sydney CBD 2000

Woolloomooloo Community Movie Night
Join us at Forbes Street Reserve, Woolloomooloo for our annual outdoor movie night as we watch Bran Nue Dae.

 

Thursday 12th July

Aboriginal Artists Pop Up featuring Vanessa Orcher and Shekara Harnett
From 10am to 3pm, Vanessa and Shekara will be selling their artwork in the foyer of the ANZ Building at 7 Macquarie Place, Sydney CBD 2000

 

Friday 13th July

NCIE: Culture & Sports Day
Join us from 10am to 4pm. Our Speak Out program and Women and Children’s Centre will have a stall. A team will be entered into the OzTag Comp!

Our very own Melissa Merritt, from Creating Futures, features in the series.

 

Sunday 15 July

NAIDOC Woolloomooloo Festival
Join us from 10:30am to 3:30pm for food, stalls, live music, entertainment and more at Forbes Street Reserve, outside Plunket Street School.

 

Thursday 19th July

Namatjira Dreaming
Join us from 9am to 2pm for our NAIDOC Day Community BBQ
