Today is International Women’s Day and what better way to celebrate than with an early morning surf!

Let’s Go Surfing held their annual IWD event and we were extremely fortunate they chose Weave Women and Children’s Centre as this year’s charity partner.

We spent the morning at Bondi Beach learning to surf (well some learning, some making the rest of us look bad)! It was great to see such a big turnout from Weave. This was followed by breakfast where we heard from Brenda Miley, founder of Let’s Go Surfing and Jessi Miley-Dyer, World Surf League Deputy Commissioner and ex-Pro Surfer. Brenda and Jessi are inspirational women who have been integral in making surfing more accessible for females and in achieving equal pay for women in professional surfing.

The money raised from the event was matched by Let’s Go Surfing, so a whopping $3,500 was donated to us. To Brenda and the team at Let’s Go Surfing, we cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support.

Let’s Go Surfing also gave out a lucky door prize – a brand new pink surfboard! The lucky winner felt inspired to donate her new board to Weave’s Kool Kids Club after hearing Siobhan’s uplifting speech about the positive impact surf lessons have made to the KKC children.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate IWD and support us. A special shout out to my team, to my colleagues and to Weave’s all-female leadership team! I feel privileged and proud to work with such compassionate, outstanding women who work tirelessly towards making a difference in the lives of women and girls in our communities.
