We have come to a great end of term with our Hip Hop program with the incredible music artists Bheki and Vulli of True Vibenation; the kids absolutely enjoyed doing this program with the brothers.

The first week of program they taught the kids about the history of hip hop, like back in the early days the genre, rapping, DJing, graffiti writing and b-boying were interwoven into the culture, one of the first rappers at the beginning of the hip hop period, at the end of the 1970s, was also hip hop’s first DJ, DJ Kool Herc.

The second week the boys brought in DJ turntables and showed the kids some videos of some of the best DJ’s in the world showing the different styles and mixes they can all do, the kids got to have a go of the turntables, if they all finished writing their verse.

In the third week Vulli brought in his beat pads and his little loop machine with a microphone so if the kids who have finished their work could have a turn of one or the other, the kids had heaps of fun with all the music equipment.

The fourth and following weeks all the kids put their heads down to finally finish all their raps so everyone can get into the recording room and everyone did great. Little Ben has built up his confidence so much, he absolutely loved it! This was awesome to see.

In the last week of the program, we all finally got to listen to the song and everyone loved it and everyone sounded so good the kids and staff were stoked to hear it. After we had our little presentation, everyone got their new Cool To Be Kind gear and also everyone received a copy of their song from the boys.

A big thank you to all the staff, volunteer Louise and of course Bheki and Vulli for all the effort they put into these kids and getting this song done and dusted. THANK YOU to the Australian Government Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Randwick City Council for your support of our Weave Kool Kids Club Programs.
