Straight Outta Compton Premiere
A group of young people from Weave Youth & Community Services and NCIE were invited to attend the Straight Outta Compton Premiere in Sydney this month. It was a fantastic night which included walking the read carpet, being interviewed by the media, listening to Ice Cube and his son O'Shea Jackson Jnr. speak about the film and then watch the Australian premiere of Straight Outta Compton. The story follows the rise of rap group NWA, touching on conflict, money and social issues faced by the group and how they expressed themselves through rap and through music. The young people who came to the see the film spoke non-stop about how inspired they have been by these rappers and their music and story while they have grown up and they were beyond excited to be sitting metres from one of their role models, Ice Cube, and his son. It was a wonderful, inspiring evening that opened up lots of conversations about expression, anger, dealing with conflict and the social issues that came up in the film. A huge thank you to Telstra Thanks and Universal for this great opportunity!
