Information for Volunteers
Weave seeks volunteers with a university level education and who have the confidence to tutor high school students, primary school students in their last year of primary school or young people who may have left school but need help with literacy and numeracy.
Volunteers with a background in education, science, maths are always in short supply. Volunteers with university degrees in other areas are also welcome to apply.
Tutoring sessions are usually between 45 minutes and 90 minutes long depending on the age of the student.
Sessions are held at our Weave office in Waterloo or the Waterloo Library. Most sessions take place between 3pm and 6pm Monday to Thursday as most students attend school during the day.
Tutoring provides valuable educational support for children and young people who often don’t have educational support at home. Many of the children and young people who come to Weave for tutoring come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We aim to ensure that tutors are able to volunteer for a year or two where possible.
All tutors will receive training in tutoring prior to commencing and during the year.
Tutors get together every term to discuss tutoring and strategies to improve tutoring in order to provide these children and young people with the best tutoring possible.
If you're interested please download the volunteer application form and send it to email@example.com. Alternatively call Denise on 9318 0539.
Please note that you will require a Working with Children Check if you want to volunteer at Weave. For information on how to apply for this please download the WCC application guide.
