Projects and Groups
Young people 16 – 28 years
Social group runs Thursday afternoons 12pm – 3pm. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for young people tackling mental health and drug and alcohol issues to find out about information, services, and activities that support mental health and wellbeing and to socialize with other young people in similar situations.
Sessions can include workshops providing useful health and wellbeing information, visits from guest speakers, outings like bushwalking, beach trips, bike riding, visits to local art galleries and museums, or creative activities such as art or music. We provide lunch and cover the cost of all activities.
Veg Head is a gardening program that runs on Friday mornings 10.30am-12.30pm in the Weave Rooftop Garden.
The program teaches basic gardening skills including garden design, vegetable garden preparation, plant choice, and pot plant gardening. There is also the opportunity to learn small business skills through involvement in our monthly Weave Veg Head market stall at the Redfern Night Markets. Morning tea provided.
Speak Out staff run a weekly Friday afternoon workshop in Juniperina Juvenile Justice Centre during school term. The workshops cover a range of different creative expression and physical activity themes.
We are currently recruiting young people 16 – 30yrs interested in becoming Youth Advocates.
Youth Advocates will meet monthly and are involved in helping to organize and run existing Weave projects and events such as NAIDOC Week, Mad Pride, and Youth Week as well coming up with ideas for new projects. In addition Youth Advocates will be responsible for identifying issues they think are important to local young people and develop ways to make sure young people’s views are included the work done by Weave. They will also have the opportunity to represent the views of young people at community forums, committees, and consultations.
