Creating Futures Program

CF_website_main-001.jpg

Creating Futures is a holistic, culturally safe program that provides bail, pre and post release support to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men and women aged 18-30 living in, or with a strong connection to the City of Sydney LGA. Priority is given to Aboriginal people. Weave is committed to addressing the over representation of Aboriginal people in custody.

We developed the Creating Futures program in response to the demand in the community. There were a high number of clients turning up to Weave on a weekly basis, still in their Prison greens: green t-shirt, shorts or tracksuit seeking assistance, literally straight out of Jail.

Weave was not resourced to provide tailored assistance to these clients and many of them did not fit the criteria for the other programs Weave provides. There are very few services for people in custody or leaving custody reintegrating back into Community.

Through the funding from the Clover Moore Trust and the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation we were able to establish the Creating Futures Justice program in November 2016.
