Si & Carlyn's Wedding Donations

Why are we asking people to donate instead of give gifts?

As a couple, we would like to start off our marriage with a spirit of generosity. We also have the material things that we need and live in a small unit. So, instead of a gift, if you feel that you would like to give us something for our wedding, we would be honoured if our wedding guests would consider giving a donation to either of two charitable organisations that we have personal connections with, and that we know are doing fantastic work

What is our connection with Weave?

I (Carlyn) have been working at Weave since the beginning of 2015 on student placement, and am now working at Weave full time as a caseworker and counselor on the Specialist Homelessness Service for 12-25 year olds. I have seen from the inside how Weave works to support some of the city's most vulnerable young people and families with all-of-life needs. Each week I am seeing that people are getting housed, finding work, getting into education and training, and receiving vital support to work through difficult times of trauma, grief and loss, domestic violence, and to regain control over their lives from addictions and other challenges.

Over 35 years, Weave has earned respect and trust in the community, and the staff and volunteers are passionate about their work. Weave is very conscious of working in culturally appropriate ways, and is respectful, flexible and creative in its approach to be able to reach some of the most marginalised people in effective ways. Weave values the existing strengths in people and the community, and works in a way that gives dignity to people. These are some of the reasons we want to give to Weave as a way of giving back to our local community.
