Student Placements at Weave

Weave is committed to the development of a strong, skilled, not for profit sector that is able to apply best practice to effectively meet the needs of communities now and into the future.

To this end, Weave takes students on placement to guide and mentor them and give them practical experience of putting the theory into practice. We want to ensure they have the best chance of being the next cohort of committed and effective youth and community services workers.

To streamline the process of matching the right students with the right placement opportunities and to ensure high quality, worthwhile placements, Weave has developed partnerships with USYD, UNSW and Sydney Tafe Ultimo.

We do not take enquiries or requests from individual students. The process involves communication between the Weave Operations Manager and the field placement coordinators of those three educational institutions.

Students from those institutions who are studying social work, youth work, community work AOD etc should approach their field placement coordinator if they are seeking placement at Weave. We do prioritise Aboriginal students from USYD, UNSW and Tafe Ultimo as we are committed to supporting career development and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people, particularly in light of the fact that over 70% of Weave’s service users are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

We are unable to consider placements for students from other educational institutions as we do not have the resources or capacity to do so.

Weave works with young people, children, women and families in the heart of Sydney.
